STF opens fire

Krishnagiri: Special Task Force (STF) personnel opened fire on some unidentified persons loitering in the Kothur forests near Varamalagunda on the Andhra Pradesh-Tamil Nadu border in the wee hours on Monday.

Sources said the STF personnel were carrying out anti-naxal operations deep inside the Bargur reserve forests when they came across the group moving suspiciously with country-made guns and torches. When told to surrender, the group opened fire. The STF personnel retaliated. The group escaped under the cover of darkness. STF and district police have stepped up security at check posts bordering Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
