State to promote tourism on foreign TV channels

T.S. Shankar

CHENNAI: The Tourism Department has planned a Rs.2-crore special promotional campaign on foreign television channels.

“Enchanting Tamil Nadu,” the branding of the Tamil Nadu Tourism, will become more visible with a special campaign to be launched on British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Asia, Discovery and its network of channels, Animal Planet and Travel and Living, and National Geographic.

“Tourism in Tamil Nadu is poised for a big leap not only in terms of visitor arrivals. It will be talked about in different parts of the European, U.S., and other travel markets. We want to take the campaign to the drawing rooms of globetrotters,” said M. Rajaram, Director of Tourism and Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation.

The department has issued orders to the BBC and steps are under way to complete the process of issuing orders for the other global programmes.
