PLEASANTRIES: The Principal of Seshasayee Institute of Technology, S. Sangapillai (right), greeting the former Principal Ananda Narasimhachar in Tiruchi on Tuesday.
TIRUCHI: The Anna University, Tiruchi, will provide opportunities for teachers in polytechnics to enhance their qualifications. The Vice-Chancellor, V. Ramachandran, said that the provision for facilitating faculties of engineering colleges to enhance their qualifications would be extended to the polytechnics with the cooperation of the Directorate of Technical Education. Mr. Ramachandran made this announcement, responding to an appeal from the Principal of Seshasayee Institute of Technology (SIT), S. Sangapillai, during the Founders’ Day celebration of the Institute here on Tuesday. Advocating high quality engineering education, he assured the university’s cooperation to the SIT management for commencing their engineering programmes from the current academic year. Delivering the V. Seshasayee Memorial Lecture on ‘Current Trends in Information Technology’, the Vice-Chancellor said that for a clear understanding of current trends, one must know the purpose behind studying data structures and algorithm. The subject should be studied more with a mathematical perspective than with a programming approach. “As such there can be no trend, but only different dimensions to the existing concept,” he said. Mr. Ramachandran lauded the Institution for prompt adaptation to the current technology by way of webcasting the proceedings of the Founder’s Day function. The Vice-Chancellor also honoured winners of SESHAFEZ-2007, the Inter-Polytechnic Cultural Competitions hosted by the Institute to mark the Founder’s Day. Offering felicitations, the former Principal, Ananda Narasimhachar, recalled the dedication with which the late founder, V. Seshasayee, a pioneer of industrial development in South India, nurtured the institution as one of excellence. He also recounted the development of the SIT through various stages since its inception in 1952. T.R. Sivaraman, Honorary Secretary of SIT, who presided, said that the Institute would shortly bring out a souvenir containing the history of the founder.
