KOCHI: The Special Investigation Group – II of Ernakulam Crime Branch arrested one person who had been absconding after the Kerala High Court convicted him on charges of trying to transact counterfeit U.S. Dollars. The case was that Murali, 43, of Kolappally in Shoranur, conspired with other accused at a lodge at Kunnamkulam on June 30, 1987, to sell nearly $80 to gold merchants in Thrissur. The Kunnamkulam police registered a case, which was later transferred to the Crime Branch. The Thrissur Additional Sessions Court had sentenced the accused to seven years rigorous imprisonment and Rs.25,000 fine. But Murali had been absconding since 1996.
