HYDERABAD: The National Convention of Central and State Government employees, teachers and workers of public sector undertakings called upon all organisations to mobilise support for the nation-wide strike on October 30 against anti-employee policies. In a statement, T. Narasimhan, vice president of the Confederation of Central Government Employees and Workers said the strike was called demanding withdrawal of Pension Fund Bill, cancellation of appointment of pension fund managers, halt to downsizing of Government departments, regularisation of casual and contingent employees and lifting of ban on recruitment. He said the employees, teachers and workers have become victims of severe economic offensive of successive Central and State Governments ever since new economic policies were ushered in 1991. In the name of reforms and at the behest of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank, employees were being retrenched and public sector undertakings closed. Labour laws were being amended to help managements to resort to hire and fire policy. Interest rate of Provident Fund was being reduced and social security benefits withdrawn.
