‘Manpower shortage in construction industry’
HYDERABAD: The need to use modern technology without the cutting down the number of jobs for labour force in the construction industry was stressed at a national workshop on ‘Mechanisation in Construction’ organised in Hyderabad on Friday.
The two-day workshop, being organised by Hyderabad chapter of Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (ACCE), apart from exploring various facets of mechanisation in construction would also discuss the need to generate skilled-labour for the industry.
Principal Secretary, Infrastructure and Investments, L.V. Subramanyam, who was the chief guest, said the IT boom was influencing students to opt out of civil engineering courses.
“Even those who have done civil engineering are hardly seen sticking to the construction industry. There is a severe shortage of skilled manpower and our polytechnic and ITI courses need urgent upgrading, he said.
