Panel favours digital meters in autos
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD: Months after the high-level committee submitted its report on the efficacy and feasibility of auto-rickshaw digital meters to the government, the Transport Minister is yet to receive the file.
Despite stiff opposition from Anti-Auto Digital Meters Struggle Committee, a team led by Joint Transport Commissioner N.V. Subba Rao visited Bangalore and Thiruvanthapuram in April and May earlier this year and submitted its report to the government in June.
The team comprised of representatives from transport, traffic, legal metrology, consumer forum and media.
However, Transport Minister Kanna Lakshminarayana told The Hindu that the report was still pending at the secretariat level and he was yet to receive the file.
While the principal secretary was on long leave, the regular secretary post was vacant for many days now and this has led to the delay in taking a decision, he said.
The committee in its report favoured installation and orders can be expected very soon, says a senior transport official.
