Sewerage project for old city cleared

Central Sanctioning Monitoring Committee (CSMC) clears Rs. 250-crore proposal


The total outlay is Rs. 400 crore

The project covers 30 sq. km


HYDERABAD: The Central Sanctioning Monitoring Committee (CSMC) has cleared Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board’s (HMWS&SB) ‘Rehabilitation and Strengthening of Sewerage System’ project worth Rs. 250 crore to be taken up in parts of Old city, which fall under zone-2, on Friday.

The project, to be funded under the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM), would cover areas like Chandrayangutta, Yakutpura, Saidabad and Malakpet (ward numbers: 16, 17, 18 and parts of ward nos- 22 and 23), covering an area of 30 square kilometres.

The major components of the project, to be implemented in three years, include rehabilitation and laying of trunk sewer main lines, laying of lateral sewer lines, transfer of house service connections and procurement of sewer cleaning equipment for maintenance.

Funds

JNNURM would be funding Rs. 87.50 crore while the State Government would share Rs. 37.50 crore and the remaining amount of Rs. 125 crore would be raised by the HMWS&SB.

The total outlay for improvement of the sewerage system in old city is Rs. 400 crore, out of which Rs. 150 crore would be raised for colonies coming under zone-1 while the rest would be allocated to zone-2.

The tenders are expected to be finalised by early September. The Detailed Project Report (DPR) to improve the existing sewerage system in colonies of old city were put forward to CSMC officials at a meeting by Principal Secretary, Municipal Administration and Urban Development, S.P. Singh, Managing Director, HMWS&SB, K.S. Jawahar Reddy, Director (Projects) Water Board, Ch. Gowtham Reddy and other officials were present.
