Centre to be functional in three months Each district hospital should have such centres
Getting ready: The Chitradurga district hospital
Chitradurga: The district hospital here is all set to introduce a clinical centre offering a choice of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy (AYUSH) treatments. The Union Government has released Rs. 58 lakh for the 10-bed centre. The hospital is in the process of providing infrastructure and recruiting staff, district surgeon B.H. Kamareddy told presspersons here on Monday. Of the Rs. 58 lakh allocated, Rs. 25 lakh will be spent for setting up the Ayurveda centre and Rs. 10 lakh for the Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy units. “Approximately Rs. 7 lakh will be used for the purchase of medicines,” he said. Adequate rooms
He said the hospital had adequate rooms, which would be renovated to set up the AYUSH centre. Dr. Kamareddy said the renovation would begin soon. “We expect the centre to start functioning within three months”, he added. The proposal for establishing the centre was prepared in 2003, he said. The centre is part of the Government’s project to promote Ayurveda and other alternative systems of medicine. “There are many people who prefer ayurvedic treatment for chronic ailments such as asthma or allergies. Since some treatment methods are not available in the field of allopathic medicine, patients can opt for alternative systems like naturopathy or homoeopathy”, Dr. Kamareddy said. According to Government norms, each district hospital is required to have an AYUSH centre, which will be managed by hospital authorities. He said the centre would have four doctors for each centre, besides other staff members. On the appointment of staff, Dr. Kamareddy said no concrete decision had been taken. However, doctors would be appointed or deputed by the Government, while the other staff would be appointed by the hospital itself, he added.
