Towards a people-friendly police force
Staff Correspondent
TUMKUR: A police-public interaction campaign was inaugurated by Tumkur District Superintendent of Police, P. Harisekaran at the Tumkur Rural Police Station on Monday.
It marked the beginning of the campaign at 37 police stations in the district.
Members of Dalit organisations, women’s associations, minority protection committees and citizens welfare groups too attended the meetings. Mr. Harisekaran said the objective of the campaign was to bring together the police and the people to check spurt in crime.
He asked the police to be friendly with the people and win their confidence.
“This is the only way to get at the root of all crimes,” he said. “Women must be bold enough to lodge complaints against anybody who harasses them. The personnel should create such an atmosphere at police stations so that women can walk in without hesitation and seek justice.”
“Register complaints as they are received. You cannot sit in judgment of cases even before they are processed and looked into”, he told the police officials.
