Bangalore: The Karnataka State Police Housing Corporation (KSPHC), the government agency which looks after the construction activities of the police and other related departments, is now all set to take up various IT-related activities including e-commerce and e-shopping in the private sector. Disclosing this to presspersons on the sidelines of a two-day symposium on ‘Good governance through professional project management,’ organised by the corporation and Good Governance magazine, KSPHC Chairman and Managing Director R. Sri Kumar noted that the State Government had permitted the corporation to take up the above activities so that it could be a self-sustaining agency in terms of finances. Work in private sector
Now, the KSPHC need not restrict itself to construction work in the government departments, but could also take up work in the private sector. This included developing, marketing and operating of Internet portals, providing services such as utility payments and travel bookings. Citizen services
It could also take up electronic data processing to facilitate various e-governance and citizen services. According to the permission granted by the Government, the corporation could even design, develop and market software, hardware and other information technology products for industries. It was also permitted to act as a consultant in implementing IT solutions for private industries, government departments and research and development establishments. Mr. Sri Kumar noted that the Government had included an additional clause that enabled the corporation to take up the above works on January 11. After this, the corporation had taken up a few of the above activities in some government departments. Now, it was set to enter private sector with these hi-tech initiatives. New building
The Bangalore City Police Commissioner will have a new office building. Work on the building is expected to start this week itself, according to Mr. Sri Kumar. He said the building would come up at a cost of about Rs. 8 crore on the premises of the existing office of the Police Commissioner on Infantry Road. A model of the proposed building of the Police Commissioner’s office was also displayed at the symposium. Accountability
Earlier, speaking at the symposium, State Planning Board Deputy Chairman A. Ravindra observed that efficiency, accountability and transparency were important for good governance. Additional Chief Secretary and Principal Secretary (Home) Vatsala Watsa, spoke.
