IOA backs federations against SAI

Principal Correspondent

NEW DELHI: The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has advised all the affiliate National sports federations housed at various Sports Authority of India (SAI) stadiums not to vacate till an alternative accommodation was provided to them.

Demand

“We want in writing from the SAI that all the federations would be allocated the same space after the renovation work at the stadium would be completed by December 2009,” said IOA president Suresh Kalmadi on Saturday.

All the sports federations have received notices from SAI to move out so that renovation of the stadiums for the 2010 Commonwealth Games could be started.

“But the SAI must provide alternative accommodation till the work is on and all the spaces must be given back, otherwise nobody is moving out,” said Mr. Kalmadi.

A majority of the federations owe money to the SAI by way of rent for the space they have been occupying.
