Dindigul: Indian Bank (Chennai) lifted the TNEB Trophy defeating Madras Sporting Union FC (Chennai) 1-0 in the final of the annual State-level invitation football tournament here on Saturday. Indian Bank could have won by a bigger margin had the forwards not missed a few chances. IB could have taken the lead in the fifth minute but Santha Kumar shot straight into goalkeeper Billa’s hands off a cross from Sumanraj. Sporting also missed a chance in the 43rd minute when Vimalraj was well set to score with goalkeeper Felix out of position but Satheesh spoiled the chance. Sporting had to play only with only with 10 men from the 47th minute as Vimalraj was given a red card by referee Arockiaraj for dangerous play. The only goal came in the 68th minute when Ramesh placed the ball into a far corner of the net receiving a forward pass from Karthikeyan from the top of the box. G.V. Four goals in a row by Devaraj helped Raju’s College (Rajapalayam) defeat VHNSN College (Virudhunagar) 5-2 and win the title in the Madurai Kamarajar University ‘D’ zone inter-collegiate hockey tournament at Sivakasi on Saturday.
