Watch for details: A view of the control room of CCTVs in Tiruchi Railway Junction.
TIRUCHI: The Railway authorities here have awarded contracts for the installation of Closed Circuit Television Sets (CCTVs) and its operation in five important railway stations coming under the jurisdiction of Tiruchi Railway Division. The installation of CCTVs has already commenced at Tiruchi Junction, where 25 sets will be put up in all the seven platforms in due course of time. To begin with, five to seven television sets have been commissioned on Platform No.1 of the station. As per the contract signed, a licencee had paid Rs.1.26 lakh as licence fee to the divisional railway authorities for operating the CCTVs in Tiruchi Junction alone for a period of one year. Railway sources here told The Hindu on Monday that the sets would also provide railway-related information, besides telecasting entertainment programmes and advertisements. A dedicated control room has been set up on Platform No. 1 from where the CCTVs are monitored. One CCTV set will also be installed at the air-conditioned lounge coming up in the junction. A senior official said that the facility would be extended to Thanjavur and Villupuram junctions and Kumbakonam and Pondicherry stations by October.
