THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Sports Authority of India (SAI) has, in principle, agreed to set up a coordination committee to oversee the smooth conduct of its various schemes in Kerala. Disclosing this to The Hindu here on Monday, the KSSC president, T.P. Dasan, who held a lengthy discussion with SAI Executive Director (Teams), P.C. Kashyap, said the latter had also promised all possible help with upgrading the fac ilities at the High Altitude Training Centre in Munnar so as to enable the centre to conduct National camps regularly. Mr. Kashyap, accordingly, will be visiting Munnar on Tuesday. Mr. Dasan said a lack of coordination between the SAI and the KSSC was hampering the smooth conduct of the various SAI schemes in the State. For instance, SAI and the KSSC even had training centres for the same disciplines in several districts so much so there was unnecessary competition. The proposed coordination committee would put to an end all such practices. Sympathetic
The SAI Executive Director was also sympathetic to another long-standing demand of having a sub-centre of the SAI South Centre in Kerala. Also to figure in the discussion was the implementation of the State Government’s prestigious “Operation Olympia” project and the need to have more SAI coaches posted to Kerala. — Special Correspondent
