Gagan Narang.
HYDERABAD: Melbourne Commonwealth Games quadruple gold medallist Gagan Narang has been invited to the Bundesliga, the German shooting league. The Guangzhou World Cup winning crack-shot will turn out for Affalterbach in a six-match s eries that culminates with the Bundesliga, held from February 8 to 10 next year. This invitation comes in the backdrop of a rise in scores he registered during a camp the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) organised and the Government of India funded, at Hanover, Germany, last month. Against a competition high of 1162, he recorded an all-time personal best of 1167 during training there in the 50 metre rifle three position, that he has been concentrating on of late. His tally in the 50m prone touched 599/600 as against the competition best of 595/600 he posted at the Milan World Cup last year. The camp, conducted by Lazlo Csuzak, Csaba Gyorik, Dronacharya Prof. Sunny Thomas and D.K. Shukla, has seen Narang’s confidence and performance levels shoot up. With about 350 rounds fired each day, he feels refreshed after the 27-day camp, where every fifth day was a holiday. If the training was tough, so was rest ample. “The camp cleared my mind of a lot of clutter,” said an upbeat Narang, who reached Delhi three days ahead of the selection trials scheduled to begin on September 4, to pick the Indian squad for the December Asian championships in Kuwait.
