Berhampur municipality displays billboards with names of major defaulters 
A bill board with the list of major defaulters of municipal dues put up at new busstand in Berhampur. – BERHAMPUR: Berhampur municipality has used billboards to display the names of its major tax defaulters. These billboards have been placed at strategic locations of the city like old bus stand and Khallikote Autonomous College square. Names of forty major municipal tax defaulters are displayed on these billboards along with mention of their due amount. The municipal authorities said that they had to take this measure, as the defaulters are not paying up their dues despite repeated request letters. The total dues of holding tax of major defaulters of the Berhampur municipality amount to Rs. 78.70 lakhs. It is an irony that a large number of government offices and agencies find mention in the list. One of the major defaulters is the Sport department as the Berhampur stadium has to pay up more than Rs. 22 lakhs to the municipality. Similarly Gridco has to pay more than Rs 13 lakhs. The Khallikote Autonomous College, MKCG medical College and City Hospital also have their names displayed as tax defaulters on the billboards. As per the billboards some film halls are also tax defaulters. But a place, which has been named as a defaulting film hall, has already been converted into a school. But the municipal authorities seem to have missed this transformation.
