THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Assembly on Friday passed a resolution expressing Kerala’s concerns over the Union Government’s stipulations regarding the identification of people living ‘below the poverty line (BPL).’ The issue, raised as a private member’s resolution by C.S. Bijimol of the CPI, was carried unanimously with members from both Treasury and Opposition benches who participated in the discussion stating that there was no logic in the Centre specifying how many people should be in the BPL list at the very outset of the identification process itself. Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac said the Centre had specified that the BPL list in the State should contain 12.25 lakh families for the benefit of ration subsidies. — Special Correspondent
