THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Pollution Control Board (SPCB) and the Kerala unit of WWF- India are organising a one-day awareness programme and competitions for school students here on Monday, in association with the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone layer. The programme will include technical sessions by subject experts on the themes ‘Ozone layer and the need for its preservation’ and ‘Global warming and climate change.’ A set of stickers and posters, highlighting the depletion of the ozone layer and its impact on human life, will be released under the programme. There will be quiz and essay writing competitions for schoolchildren. A film screening has also been included in the afternoon session. About 150 students from eight schools are expected to participate. The event will be held at the Vanasree auditorium on the premises of the Forest Office, Vazhuthacaud. International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer is organised every year to highlight the dangers posed by depletion of the ozone layer.
