90 buses operating extra services

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As many as 90 buses of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) have started operating additional services following the drive against parallel services in the city.

Transport Minister Mathew T. Thomas told the Assembly on Friday that 1,600 vehicles had been operating parallel services in the city. The Government had taken stringent action against such services, he said.

Film city

Education and Culture Minister M.A. Baby said that a film city would be set up in the Chitranjali complex at Thiruvallam. All facilities needed for the film fraternity would be provided on the 28 hectares of land. It would have a family club, a convention centre for organising corporate meetings and conferences, a garden, a fountain, a restaurant, facility for light-and-sound show and cottages. Space would be provided for putting up sets. The project was aimed at attracting film producers and tourists to earn more income. It had been proposed to open a film museum too.

The project would be implemented in a cost-effective manner with the cooperation of the Kerala State Film Development Corporation employees. Advice of experts in the field would be sought. Assistance of the Tourism Department would be sought for developing it as a tourist destination, he said.

Vizhinjam project

The feasibility study for railway-road connectivity for the Vizhinjam project would be completed within four months, Law Minister M. Vijayakumar said.

The study was being conducted by Rail India Technical and Economic Services (RITES) Ltd. The last date for submitting tenders for the project was October 31, he said.
