BANGALORE: Given the importance of networks in today’s wars and in the light of the Indian Air Force (IAF) linking all its units into one seamless combat entity, Air Marshal G.S. Chaudhry, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Training Command stressed on the importance of network security. He was speaking after inaugurating a seminar on “Computer Networks Security” organised by the IAF as part of its platinum jubilee celebrations here on Saturday. The Air Marshal said the seminar was pertinent, particularly, in the platinum jubilee year of the IAF. He exhorted scientists, academicians, industry doyens and operational end-users to have a debate. The seminar was attended by experts from the academia, research, industry and defence. Some of the prominent speakers were Chandan Mazumdar, Jadavpur University; Sumantra Dutta Roy, IIT, Delhi; Sethu Madhavan, Amrita School, Coimbatore; Hemant Rath, IIT, Mumbai; Sundeep Oberoi, Tata Consultancy Services; Group Captain Sukhchain Singh; and Wing Commanders M.P. Varghese, Davesh Singh and K.V.K. Anand. Prof. Mazumdar presented a case study on “Access Control and Communication Security of C41 System.” He said that the control of human access to communication systems was crucial to the smooth functioning of the system. Most of the information communicated over the communication channel was highly classified and required enough security so that eavesdroppers could not make out what was being communicated, he said. Dr. Roy presented a paper on “Video and Image Manipulation.” The focus of her talk was on various aspects of image and security and their use in security operations.
