Viswakarma puja catches up

Correspondent

1,000 mandaps erected on the occasion

CCRI also started organising the puja

Till recently the puja was not so popular in the city

Cuttack: Worship of Lord Viswakarma (God of works) was not that popular as it is now in this historic city which is known for its famous Durga puja and Bali yatra.

But over the past few years, the worship of God of works is catching up in the city.

This year an estimated 1,000 puja mandaps have been erected here for the Monday’s Viswakarma puja.

Traditionally, the units dealing with machinery and tools, particularly, the garages, electric sub-stations and workshops were celebrating this occasion in the city.

But now many shops dealing with tools, equipments and even shops dealing with electric items were also worshiping the Lord in grand style.

Big surprise

Surprisingly, the Central Rice Research Institute (CRRI) whose mandate is to carry research on rice and rice-based agriculture is celebrating this occasion in grandeur by some of its departments inside the campus.

As many as five departments of the research institute likeâthe electric maintenance unit, civil maintenance unit, engineering division, farm division and national seed production unit were in celebration mode.

A senior scientist of the Institute even maintained that Viswakarma puja should be observed by every department of CRRI as each of them take the help of various equipments to perform their work.

Celebrated in grand style

He however, suggested that work on such occasion should not be hampered and the celebrations should be observed during off hours.

The industrial estates located on the outskirt of the city at Khapuria, Jagatpur and nearby township of Choudwar are wearing a bridal look on the occasion as almost all the units are observing the puja in grand style.

Many puja mandaps have also made arrangements for cultural programmes in the evening.
