150 cylinders seized

BANGALORE: The Organised Crime (Prevention) Wing of the Central Crime Branch (CCB) arrested a five-member gang that had allegedly hijacked a truck laden with industrial gas cylinders in December 2006.

The police have recovered 130 nitrogen and hydrogen cylinders and a truck, all estimated at Rs. 15 lakh. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) B.R. Ravikanthe Gowda told presspersons on Wednesday that the accused used to supply stolen cylinders to industries and hospitals. They used to transport cylinders in an unsafe manner and this could have resulted in explosions, he said.
