Centre coming up at a cost of Rs. 100 crore To be constructed on a 4.9-acre plot Next phase of IT Corridor is estimated to cost about Rs. 235 crore CHENNAI: An Amenity Centre at an estimated cost of Rs.100 crore is being planned off the Information Technology Corridor near Siruseri. Officials of the Tamil Nadu Road Development Company (TNRDC) which is handling the IT Corridor project, said online bidding for developing the proposed facility on a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) basis is scheduled for December 7. The TNRDC has appointed Matex Net Private Limited “to assist in selection of a suitable developer.” It is providing an online auction platform and would be talking to bidders to ensure that they get familiar with the usage of the platform. The proposed Amenity Centre would be constructed on a 4.9-acre plot at the entrance to the SIPCOT Information Technology Park in Siruseri. It would have one hotel besides one or more facilities, which could be a food court, serviced apartments, multiplexes or malls. To be built on a BOT basis, it would be given on sub-lease for 30 years. Transparent process“This is the first time that a BOT project is being auctioned online in India,” said K.R. Viswanathan, Director in Charge of TNRDC. The e-auction is expected to maximise returns and make the process transparent. Cable ducting is also under way at the IT Corridor, with provision for service providers, including Tamil Nadu Electricity Board and the Chennai Metrowater , to provide connections to users without digging up the road again. Cable ducting would ensure that there are no overhead cables along the IT Corridor, Mr. Viswanathan said. Status of IT corridorOn the status of the IT Corridor, he said the stretch from SRP Tools Junction to Karapakkam Tank would be completed by December. Simultaneously, work is on from the Karapakkam Tank to Siruseri and the main carriage-way work is expected to be completed by March next year. Work should also be completed around the same time on the ECR Link Road, connecting the East Coast Road and the IT Corridor at Sholinganallur and Akkarai. The next phase of the IT Corridor from Siruseri to Mahabalipuram is estimated to cost about Rs. 235 crore. For the two bye-passes required at Padur-Kelambakkam and Thiruporur, road alignment plans has been submitted to the government, he said.
