CHENNAI: Minister of State for Railways R. Velu on Monday inaugurated an integrated train enquiry system, which will provide basic information about the status and availability of reservation, fare and the movement of trains. Passengers from Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry can make enquiries by dialling 139. The service will be initially available for MTNL and BSNL subscribers and extended to other telecom service providers later. Mr. Velu said that while the existing system of dialling 131 was a localised one, the new system covered the whole country and would be available round the clock, either through inter-active voice response system or manually. Managing Director of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Nalin Shinghal said the subscriber could access these services by making local call, and a multi-lingual service would be available. Ticket booking facility would be provided in the system after four-five months.
