Gokulakrishnan’s knock helps Spark Colts beat Crescent CC

Madurai: A fine knock of 84 by Gokulakrishnan helped Spark Colts Cricket Club carve out a 106-run victory over Crescent Cricket Club in the Canara Bank-MDCA first division ‘B’ zone league here on Sunday.

The scores (First division ‘B’ zone): Spark Colts CC 250 for nine in 45 overs (Gokulakrishnan 84, Sundar three for 53) bt Crescent CC 144 in 30.4 overs (Raghavan four for 32).

‘A’ zone: Spark CC 170 in 33.5 overs (Krishnakumar 41, Velmurugan 46, Jawahar three for 29) bt Victory CC 152 in 32.1 overs (Jaiganesh four for 30).

Kabaddi tournament

The South-West zone inter-university women’s kabaddi tournament will be organised by Madurai Kamaraj University at Madurai from December 5 to 9.

In all, 61 teams are in the fray, of which the defending champion, Nagarjuna, runner-up Mumbai and last year’s semi-finalists Sivaji and Pune have been drawn direct into the quarterfinals for the first knock-out phase. The four teams that qualify for the semifinals will play in a round robin league to decide the winner. All the four teams will automatically qualify for the all-India inter-university women’s tournament to be held at Himachal Pradesh by December end.

All the matches will be played at the University ground, day and night in the floodlit courts.

Sakkaraisamy scalps five

A five-wicket haul by medium-pacer S. Sakkaraisamy helped Mansur Youngsters Cricket Club score an emphatic nine-wicket victory over Nike Cricket Club (Oddanchatram) in the Canara Bank-DDCA first division league at Dindigul on Sunday.

The scores (First division): Nike CC 92 in 15 overs (Manikandan 40, S. Sakkaraisamy five for 15) lost to Mansur Youngsters CC 93 for one in 14 overs (N. Sethuraman 40 n.o.).

Third division: Play Boys CC 155 in 21.2 overs bt Harivarna CC 125 for six in 22 overs.

Vairamuthu hits unbeaten century

Vairamuthu’s unbeaten 133-helped Double Star Cricket Club tie with Majestic Cricket Club in the Canara Bank-TDCA ‘A’ division league at Tirunelveli on Sunday.

The scores (‘A’ division): Double Star CC 238 for nine in 35 overs (Vairamuthu 133 n.o., Rajesh four for 42) tied with Majestic CC 238 in 35 overs (Janakiraman 70, Satheesh 44, Selvam four for 44).

‘B’ division: Ram Friendship CC 52 in 17 overs lost to Seven Stars CC 53 for no loss in 8.4 overs; King Dharma CC 41 in 10.2 overs (Ameer four for 12) lost to Indian CC 44 for four in 8.1 overs.

Rajkumar in last four

Rajkumar and Satheesh of Aruppukottai defeatied Rafi and Yazer of Rajapalayam 30-8 to enter the semifinals of the Southern Districts badminton doubles tournament organised by National Sports Club at Virudhunagar on Sunday.
