Kannur wins title
Manjeri: Kannur defeated last year’s runner-up Kollam 2-1 to win the title in the 37th State junior boys’ hockey championship which concluded at the GBHS ground here on Sunday.
Dipin opened the scoring for Kannur in the 26th minute, while Arun Raj equalised for Kollam in the 36th minute.
Shijin again put Kannur ahead in the 36th minute for the match-winner.
Defending champion Thiruvananthapuram finished third after defeating Thrissur 3-2 in the tie-breaker.
Both teams failed to score during regular time.
In the semifinals, Kollam defeated Thiruvananthapuram 2-1 and Kannur overcame Thrissur 6-5 via tie-breaker after both teams were locked 1-1 at full time.
