Kiran completes clean sweep in u-18 category

Antalya (Turkey): The second round of the World youth chess championships at the Limra Hotel here on Monday was good for many Indians.

The Indians with two full points are B. Adhiban, Kiran Manisha Mohanty, R. Preethi, Mary Ann Gomes, C.H. Meghna, C.R. Varsha, N. Srinath, Mehar Chinna Reddy, Arjun Bharat, Pon Krithika, Bakthi Kulkarni, Shardul Gagare and J. Mohana Priya.

In the under-18 girls’ section, R. Preethi created an upset by defeating top seed Valentina Gunina of Russia on the top table and Mary Ann Gomes beat Yenning Chirvi of Colombia on the third table.

Kiran completed an Indian sweep in the under-18 girls’ category by beating Meri Zhorzholiani of Georgia on the second table.

India has only three players in the under-18 girls’ competition and all three of them are playing well. Remarkably, they were playing on the top three tables on Monday.

Important results (Indians unless specified): Boys: Under-18: Sai Srinivas 1 lost to Avetik Grigoryan (Arm); Can Ertem (Tur) bt M.R. Lalith Babu 0.

Under-16: B. Adhiban 2 bt That Nhu tung Ton (Vie); Levan Bregnadze (Geo) bt V.A.V. Rajesh 1; Chun Che Tin liao (Tpe) lost to S. Nitin 1.

Under-14: Tadeas Klecker lost to N. Srinath 2; Mehar Chinna Reddy 2 bt Bastien Dubessay (Fra); Pranav Shetty 1 bt Jonathan Wright (Sco); Atishay Ajmera 1 bt Ardil Gurasten (Tur).

Under-12: Atilla Yuksel (Tur) drew Sahaj Grover 1.5; Yung Hoon Jung (Kor) lost to U.K. Sahoo 2; Gani Ererdam (Tur) lost to Fenil Shah 1.

Under-10: Ayan Akematov (Kaz) bt Girish Koushik 1; Shardul Gagare 2 bt Sona Aksel Bicer (Tur).

Under-8: Ildar GValimov (Rus) drew Shivan Srivatsav 1.5; Hetul Shah lost to Viktor Haring (Svk).

Girls: Under-18: Valentina Gunani (Rus) lost to R. Preethi 2; Meri Zhorzholiani (Geo) lost to Kiran Manisha Mohanty 2; Mary Ann Gomes 2 bt Yenny Chirvi (Col).
