Tension at sub-jail

PUDUKOTTAI: Tension prevailed at the sub-jail here on Tuesday when five undertrial prisoners climbed atop a block demanding, among other things, the transfer of the Additional Superintendent of the prison.

Vairavan and Vinodhkumar, both of Virudunagar, Prabhu of Pudukottai, Murugapillai of Cuddalore and Mari of Dindigul demanded a separate cell for themselves. They also protested against “irregular supply of food.”

Sources said the prisoners inflicted injuries on their bodies using razor blades to highlight their demands.
