SHG members protest against delay in issue of NOC for loan
Special Correspondent
TAMBARAM: Members of a women’s self-help group (SHG) staged a demonstration on the premises of Alandur Municipality on Monday, protesting against the delay in receiving a no objection certificate (NOC) for obtaining a bank loan.
A nationalised Bank in Alandur had agreed to provide Rs.2.50 lakh to ‘Malargal’ SHG to support the group’s activities for families living below the poverty line.
As the SHG was based in Alandur, it had to get an NOC from the municipality to receive the loan.
Though the women members of the SHG have been approaching the local body for more than a month, they did not get the NOC, they said.
Deciding to put an end to the issue, women members allegedly barged into the local body’s office as a mark of protest. Senior officials of the local body tried to pacify them.
The agitated women said they would not leave unless the NOC was issued. Officials sought the help of Nanchil Prasad, Councillor from Ward No. 13, and town president of Congress.
When he arrived, the protesting women briefed the elected representative about the problems in getting the NOC.
Assurance
Senior officials assured that the NOC would be issued soon. They made it clear that the process of issuing the document was uniform, unbiased and transparent.
Following the assurance, the women dispersed.
