SAI (Kollam) clinches title

THALASSERY: SAI, Kollam edged out Thrissur 5-4 in the tie-breaker to win the title in the 53rd senior men’s hockey championship at the Municipal Stadium here on Wednesday.

The teams were locked goalless at regular time.

Thiruvananthapuram took the third spot with a solitary goal win over Kollam. Praveen Kumar scored the match winner.

G.V. Raja Sports School girls held Thalassery Veterans to a goalless draw in the second exhibition match between the two teams.

Special awards: Player of the tournament: Arun Jacob (Ekm).

Best forward: Mujeeb (Knr).

Best midfielder: Vishal (SAI, Klm).

Best defender: Prijilal (Klm).

Best goalkeeper: Sanal Kumar (Tsr).

Assumption triumphs

Assumption College, Changanassery, won the women’s title in the MG University inter-zone basketball tournament at the University stadium, Kottayam on Wednesday.

Assumption remained unbeaten in the league after scoring wins over St. Xavier’s College, Aluva, Mar Thoma College, Thiruvalla and Alphonsa College, Pala. St. Xavier’s College finished runner-up.

The results (league): Assumption 56 (Lizy Mathew 21) bt St. Xavier’s 44 (Leena Jacob 16, P.C. Anumol 11).

The semifinal line-ups have been completed in both over 45 and over 55 categories of the AITA National veterans tennis tournament at the TTC courts in Thiruvananthapuram Wednesday.

BFI’s scholarship course

The Basketball Federation of India (BFI) and the University of Delaware, USA, in coordination with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, India, are offering a scholarship for a two-year graduate assistant course at the University of Delaware.

Candidates who know the game or has played the game at school/college level will be considered for the scholarship.

The educational qualification is a Bachelor’s degree and command over the English language. Preference will be given to candidates with GMAT.

Interested candidates should apply within 2 days and further details can be had from the office of the Trivandrum District Basketball Association (0471 6454415).
