Dissidents allege Ibobi-tribal MLAs nexus
Iboyaima Laithangbam
IMPHAL: Dissident Congress MLAs of Manipur have accused Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh of having a nexus with tribal MLAs demanding a division of the State to create a greater Nagaland.
Ten independent tribal MLAs recently met the AICC general secretary in-charge of the North-East, Prithviraj Chauhan, in New Delhi and submitted a memorandum urging him not to replace Mr. Singh. They had said that Mr. Singh had been undertaking measures for the speedy development of the tribal areas.
The dissident MLAs said, in a statement, that only recently the tribal MLAs expressed their dissatisfaction at the negligence of the tribal areas by the government.
The statement added that at least six of these MLAs were sponsored by the United Naga Council, which has been openly demanding merger of the “Naga-inhabited” areas in Manipur with Nagaland.
The statement said that of the 31 CLP members, as many as 20, who were in the dissidents’ camp, were demanding a change of leadership. The response from the central leaders was encouraging.
