Hat-trick by Balaji

Madurai: Balaji’s haul of five for 11, including a hat-trick, helped Great Warriors CC defeat Youth Well CC by seven wickets in the Raja Durai Ambalam Davamani Ammal Memorial Trophy district-level Twenty20 cricket tournament here on Saturday.

The scores: Second round: MA CC 117 for six in 20 overs (Anbu three for 22) lost to Victory CC 121 for three in 16.3 overs (Senthil 40).

First round: Youth Well CC 57 in 14.1 overs (Balaji five for 11, including a hat-trick) lost to Great Warriors CC 58 for three in 13 overs; Golden Star CC 128 for eight in 20 overs (Ilayaraja 30) bt Portranger 120 in 19.3 overs (Muneeswaran 32); Majestic Cubs CC 138 for five in 20 overs (Venkatesh 35, Viswanathan 32, Suresh three for 11) bt Lancer CC 53; MA CC 130 for six in 20 overs (Rajkumar 40) bt Pamban CC 61 in 17.2 overs (Vasanth 3 for 6).

Srirangam triumphs

At Tiruchi, Srirangam Boys HSS defeated National College HSS by 65 runs to win the title at the Tiruchi Educational district-level under-19 cricket tournament on Saturday.

The scores: Final: Srirangam Boys HSS 140 for five in 20 overs (S.R. Mithun 37, K.G. Madheswaran 35) bt National College HSS 75 in 14.5 overs (R. Prabhu four for 19). Semifinals: E.R. HSS 81 in 19.2 overs (S. Parthiban four for 18) lost to Srirangam Boys HSS 84 for no loss in 11.5 overs (S.R. Mithun 65 not out); Abbot Marcel 91 in 19.4 overs (Vignesh four for 23) lost to National College HSS 92 for two in 15 overs (Vignesh 32 n.o.)

Tournament postponed

The South Zone and all-India inter-University football tournament for men scheduled to be held at Annamalai University, Chidambaram, in December, has been postponed to January due to rain. The South Zone tournament has been postponed to January 19, while the all-India tournament has been postponed to January 28.

Riverside posts win

At Udhagamandalam, Riverside CA and JSS College of Pharmacy defeated their respective opponents in the Canara Bank-NDCA ‘C’ division cricket league for the Kairbetta Estates Syndicate Rolling Trophy on Saturday.

The scores: Kenthorai CC 103 lost to Riverside CA 104 for seven in 14 overs (Mohan 40); Galaxy CC 194 (Manjunath 50, Mansoor Saludeen 42 not out, Venkatesh four for 19) lost to JSS 196 for nine in 38.2 overs (Sanjay Ramani 41).

GMCC registers win

At Salem, GMCC scored a 20-run win over Universal Cricket Club in the Canara Bank-SDCA first division league at the Neelambal grounds recently.

The scores (I div.): GMCC 218 for nine in 43 overs (Santhosh Kumar 67, Dharmaraj four for 37) bt Universal CC 198 in 43 overs (Prakash four for 29).

II Div.: Rothmans CC 183 in 43 overs bt Eagles Eye CC 97 in 43 overs (Ravi four for 29); Students Junior CC 152 in 42 overs (Navin 40) lost to Chandramouli CC 153 for four in 32.4 overs (Suresh 41 not out).

III Div.: RTP CC 295 in 45 overs (Ashok 64) bt Youngstar CC 96 in 45 overs (Aslam seven for 41); Montforts w/o. SISCOL CC.
