KUWAIT: Anjali Bhagwat top scored among the Indians, but the shooters’ quest to add yet another Olympic quota berth fizzled out at the 11th Asian shooting championship here on Saturday. Tejaswini Sawant disappointed in the women’s 50m rifle three-position event. She shot a 566 and failed to enter the final. Anjali at 570 also missed the final. Meena Kumari, shot 568 and Raj Kumari, shooting in the MQS event, had 576.
In the women’s air pistol event, Shweta Chaudhary missed the finals on the count back. Shweta shot 383 out of 400, but her last card of 96 was lower than others with the same score. Harveen Srao (377) and Nausheen Fathima (363) had miserable scores as pistol shooters’ hopes for Olympic quota evaporated. Lajja Goswami won her second bronze medal of the meet when she shot 656.7 in the junior women 50m rifle three-position event. Her good show ensured India a team silver with a total of 1655. Anu Tomar (551) and N. Saini Devi (557) were the other shooters. Heena Sidhu won bronze medal in junior women air pistol event with a total of 478.5.
