Sudhir in lead

CHENNAI: Defending champion and top seed Sudhir Kumar Sinha of Central Zone defeated his teammate D.R. Jaiswal and got the sole lead in the penultimate round of all-India Ordnance Factories inter-zonal chess tournament, organised by the Engine factory Sports Council, Avadi, at Bhishma Club, HVF Estate, here on Saturday.

Important results (fourth and penultimate round): Sudhir Kumar Sinha (Central) (3.5) bt D. Jaiswal (Central) (3); Bahadur Rajesh (Central) (3) bt Venugopalan (South) (2), O.P. Yadav (Central) (3) bt G.L. Dutta (East) (2), Suresh Lal (South) (2) lost to Prem Babu (North) (3), Baskaran (South) (2.5) bt M.K. Arora (North) (1.5), P.K. Dutta (North Zone) (1) lost to Dhirendra Kumar (North) (2), S.A. Ansari (East) (1.5) drew with R.S. Negi (North) (1.5), S. Biswas (East) (1) lost to M.D. Shirode (West) (2).
