Minister flags off new buses for Paderu

APSRTC’s New Year gift to people in the agency

VISAKHAPATNAM: Minister for Transport Kanna Lakshminarayana flagged of new buses for Paderu agency area here on Wednesday.

This is the first time in 15 years that new buses to Paderu in the agency area were introduced. The compact Sapthagiri buses which were meant for Tirumala ghat road are now being plied to Paderu.

Paderu MLA Lake Raja Rao, who was instrumental in getting the new buses, described it as a new year’s gift to the agency people. Executive Director P.V.D. Jayasankar Prasad was also present.

“Never before in the history of APSRTC 50 per cent of the fleet were replaced with new buses. We have started the new year 2008 on an excellent note,” said RTC Regional Manager N. Venkateswara Rao.

Talking to media persons, he said that of the nine bus depots in the region, Paderu, incurred a loss of Rs.81 lakhs and Anakapalle Rs.30 lakhs. All other depots made gains which helped the region net a profit of Rs.2.5 crores.

The new buses have wider windows with grey tinted glasses to protect from harsh sunlight, saloon tube lights for better illumination, expansive and exclusive seats and see-through parcel racks.

Up in fleet number

With the introduction of the new buses, the fleet of Paderu depot has swelled to 32 with 29 schedules and 158 trips daily for an aggregate 9900 km. operation. The earnings per day were expected to be Rs.1.3 lakhs with an average of 13,500 passengers.
