Rare ritual

For the first time in the country, 1008 idols of Lord Ganesh were worshipped at one place simultaneously at Sampath Vinayagar temple near RTC complex to mark the arrival of New Year and pray for welfare of mankind.

The idols made with clay as per ‘agamasastra’ were installed on December 31. After puja and homam by temple main priest Mohan Swamy and 20 Vedic pundits from Chennai, the immersion ceremony was performed on the evening of January 1.
