VISAKHAPATNAM: Chairperson of the Andhra Pradesh State Human Rights Commission Justice B. Subhashan Reddy has directed the Srikakulam District Collector to provide details of the action taken to settle the grievance of Ms. Revathi, wife of a missing soldier, who is leading a hand-to-mouth existence. Madanala Chalapathi Rao, a native of Pedda Muraharipuram village of Vajrapu Kotturu mandal, had served as a soldier at the ASW Workshop at Nasik and was sent on deputation to the EME Centre in Secunderabad in January 1998. He was reported missing from there a month later. Reacting to a report that appeared in these columns on Sunday, Justice Mr. Reddy said it was beyond comprehension as to why the authorities concerned were unresponsive to the legal claims of the woman though a ‘deemed death certificate’ was issued by the Tahsildar of Vajrapu Kotturu. He sought information from the District Collector on whether any steps were taken to provide pension to her and other senior citizens of the family. He asked the Collector to submit the report on all aspects by January 11.
