Meet on English grammar
HYDERABAD: The 5th International Congress on English Grammar (ICEG) was inaugurated by Minister for Technical Education Chenga Reddy at the G. Narayanamma Institute of Technology and Science, Shaikpet, here on Monday.
The six-day meet, a forum for scholars and teachers of English to share their expertise, is being held with the theme, ‘Language Engineering and IT’.
In his keynote address, Christian MIM Matthiessen from Macquarie University, Australia, stressed on the role and challenge of English at work, keeping in view the scenario in engineering and information technology areas. JNTU Vice-Chancellor K. Rajagopal spoke on the role of English language laboratory, which is made mandatory in the engineering curriculum for the enhancement of communication skills.
APSCHE Chairman K.C. Reddy in his address appealed to English teaching fraternity to equip engineering students, specially those from vernacular medium, with the language proficiency.
The congress is being held in association with Systemic Functional Linguistics Association, Forum for English Language Teachers and English Teachers Forum.
