BANGALORE: Burglars have struck at a business establishment in Seshadripuram police station limits and looted 15 laptops, 30 computers, 20 MP3 players and other electronic goods, all worth Rs. 15 lakh, according to the police. The police said the thieves had entered the business establishment situated at Nehru Circle in Nehrunagar by breaking open the ventilator grills. The theft took place between 4.30 p.m. on Sunday and 8 a.m. on Monday. On a complaint by proprietor of the shop, Rakesh, the Seshadripuram police have registered a case. MurderedA man accused in 27 criminal cases was hacked to death near his house in Vijayanagar police station limits on Sunday. The police said that around 11 p.m. eight men armed with swords and choppers attacked Govindaraj alias Thammenahalli Govinda (39) while he and his accomplices were having liquor at a by-lane on 4th Cross, Govindarajanagar. Govindaraj, who suffered injuries on the head and the chest, was killed on the spot. The police suspected that his accomplices could have conspired against him and killed him. There was a history sheet against Govindaraj in the Vijayanagar police station. He was accused in murder, attempt to murder, extortion, rioting, robbery and dacoity cases and had been jailed several times. He was the prime accused in the murder of his rival Thammaiah of Govindarajanagar, who was hacked to death at Attiguppe in Vijayanagar in 2001. Govindaraj had reportedly hatched the plan to kill Thammaiah while he was lodged in the Central Prison in Bellary, they said. Falls to deathGujjaramma (50), a labourer, was killed after she accidentally fell into a sump at a construction site in Vidyaranayapura police station limits in the early hours of Monday. The police said that as usual around 6 a.m. Gujjaramma, a resident of Kanshiramnagar, went to a tea stall near her house. While she was washing her face at a sump at a construction site near the tea stall, she lost balance and fell into the sump. Killed A security guard was killed in a hit-and-run case reported from Indiranagar traffic police station limits in the early hours of Monday. The dead was identified as K. Mani (50), a resident of Jeevanahalli in Cox Town. The police said that around 5.30 a.m. while Mani was on his way to his workplace, a multi-utility vehicle knocked down his bicycle near the junction of Suranjandas Road and Old Madras Road. The Indiranagar traffic police have registered a case and are on the lookout for the vehicle, which sped away after the accident. Foetus foundA female foetus was found in a heap of garbage on a vacant plot on 33rd A Main, 6th Phase, J.P. Nagar, on Monday. The J.P. Nagar police said the foetus was about six months old. SuicideSreenivasa (25), a bus driver, committed suicide by hanging himself to death from the ceiling of his house in Vinayaka Layout in Hessarghatta on Sunday night. The Sooladevanahalli police, who have registered a case, said they were yet to ascertain the reason for the act. BurgledThieves broke into a Defence official’s house in Ramamurthynagar police station limits and made away with gold and silver ornaments worth Rs. 75,000. The police said the theft took place at Captain Michael’s house in Akshayanagar when his family was away from the city from December 28 to January 5. Sentenced The II City Traffic Court has convicted the driver of a sports utility vehicle who had caused a serial road accident, resulting in the death of an elderly man and injuries to four persons, in Jayanagar traffic police station limits on July 10, 2005. The magistrate sentenced the driver P. Eshwar Babu to six months of imprisonment and fined him Rs. 5,000. The vehicle had jumped the median on T. Mariyappa Road and rammed a car and a scooter. One of the passengers of the car, Madanlal Kothari, was killed in the accident. Kothari’s wife, Rajavanthi Bai, the car driver, Sunil Kumar Jain, and the scooter riders, Venkatesh and Kavitha, were seriously injured.
