Video conferencing facility launched in Gulbarga court

Special Correspondent

All smiles: Deputy Commissioner Pankajkumar Pandey inaugurating the video conferencing facility at the New District Court Complex in Gulbarga on Thursday.

GULBARGA: Gulbarga became the fourth city in the State after Bangalore, Mysore and Bijapur to get the video conferencing facility to conduct trials from court halls.

Deputy Commissioner Pankajkumar Pandey inaugurated the facility in the New District Court Complex here on Thursday.

Senior judicial officers including Principal District and Sessions Judge H.S. Ramanna and Principal Civil Judge V.V. Joshi were present.

Inspector-General of Police (North Eastern Range) M.V. Murthy was present in the Central Prison on the outskirts of Gulbarga city at the time of the inauguration of the video conferencing facility.

Principal District and Sessions Judge H.S. Ramanna conducted the first trial through facility by hearing the case of the undertrial, Veeresh, from the central prison.

Advantages

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Pandey said the introduction of the facility would go long way in speedy dispensation of justice and also save the cost of transportation of undertrials to the court whenever their cases came up for hearing.

Mr. Ramanna said that this would help in overcoming the shortage of the prison and police staff to accompany the undertrials to courts.

The problem of transporting “high risk” undertrial prisoners to courts could also be overcome by conducting trials through video conferencing, he said. Mr. Ramanna said that trials through video conferencing would be held on daily basis, and this would help in disposing of the cases immediately.
