Young man killed in Metro tunnel

NEW DELHI: A young man was killed after he was hit by a metro train near Chawri Bazar station here on Thursday.

According to Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, the man aged about 25 was hit while he was walking on the tracks. “The train operator on the Central Secretariat-Vishwavidyalaya line noticed the man walking in the tunnel at 2-35 p.m. He applied the emergency brakes but the train hit the man before stopping,” a DMRC official said.

The DMRC official said the unidentified man was walking on the tracks without permission. “Though an ambulance was immediately called, he was declared dead at 2-47 p.m. Investigations are on to ascertain his identity,” the official added.
