NEW DELHI: A couple and an accomplice have been arrested by the Crime Branch of the Delhi police on charges of drug peddling. The police claim to have seized about 7 kg of smack from them. Acting on a tip-off that a man was carrying a consignment of smack, a Crime Branch team laid a trap at Vivek Vihar and arrested him after 800 gm of smack was allegedly found on his person. He identified himself as Suresh. At his instance, the police raided his Ghaziabad flat and allegedly seized 6.1 kg of the stuff. Suresh’s wife Nirmala and an accomplice Bharat were also arrested. They were allegedly mixing other chemicals in the smack for sale on the Capital’s streets when the raid was conducted. According to the police, Suresh was initiated into the world of drug trafficking in 1986 when he was arrested at Farash Bazar. In 2000, he was booked for rioting and assaulting a police officer on duty. There are five criminal cases against him, said the police. His wife Nirmala is allegedly involved in ten cases. She was booked for the first time in 1981 in connection with liquor smuggling. She was again booked on similar charges last year. Bharat has been booked five times for alleged bootlegging. He is a distant relative of Suresh, the police added.
