CHENNAI: This time, it was not about being part of a training session on Math or science teaching, but on a topic not so common in their realm. Teachers from nearly 60 corporation schools participated in a training workshop on solid waste management recently organised in the city. The workshop was jointly organised by Exnora International, Chennai Corporation and Chennai Willingdon Corporate Foundation. The teachers were briefed about solid waste management practices in their schools as well as at homes. The subjects covered at the workshop included significance of source segregation, various types of composting and involvement of local bodies and communities in waste management. Chennai Willingdon Corporate Foundation director V. Narayanan announced cash prizes for the three best schools that adopted zero waste management practices. Seminars for studentsExnora International general secretary M. Chidambaram said such seminars would be organised for college students every month.
