RALLYING FOR A CAUSE: CPI leader D. Raja, along with party activists, taking out a rally demanding construction of a flyover in Vyasarpadi, on Sunday. CHENNAI: Members of the Communist Party of India (CPI) took out a rally on Sunday demanding immediate construction of the Vyasarpadi flyover. The previous regime had announced that Rs. 25 crore was allotted for the project. The project had also figured in the election promises of the ruling DMK, representatives of the party said. Currently, a subway exists at the location in a state of disrepair. Moderate rain is enough to cut off Vyasarpadi from the city because water stagnates at the location, they said. The Highways Department has planned an assessment at the area shortly. CPI National Secretary D. Raja flagged off the rally from near the Mahakavi Bharathi Nagar bus stop in Vyasarpadi. The subway existing at the location is a vital link between Vyasarpadi and the rest of the city. Frequently used by container lorries and other heavy vehicles, the subway has developed several potholes. Party representatives alleged that a concrete road existed previously that was hastily re-laid with tar. The tar topping is now coming off in patches, they said.
