Strike to oppose merger of associate banks with SBI Bank staff to go ahead with strike on Feb. 25 and 26 HYDERABAD: Banking operations across the State were paralysed on Friday with employees of all public sector and private banks going a day’s token strike in response to a call given by the United Federation of Banks’ Unions. Cheque collection and clearing work did not take off as employees took out rallies to the State Bank of India’s local head office here . Similar rallies and meetings were organised by banking staff at Vijayawada, Guntur, Visakhapatnam, Rajahmundry, Tirupati and other cities in the State. Trade union leaders expressed their solidarity , according to K. Ramakoteswara Rao, convener, UFBU and general secretary, AP State unit of the All-India Bank Officers’ Confederation. The strike call was given to oppose the merger of several associate banks with the SBI . The bank staff would go ahead with the two-day strike on February 25 and 26 . . Meanwhile, B.S. Rambabu, general secretary, APBEF said in a statement that Dr. Reddy had assured taking up of the matter with the Centre. S. Sudhakar Reddy and Aziz Pasha, MPs, were present.
