HYDERABAD: In a strategic move to counter the campaign of party seniors, a group of young Congress legislators from Telangana plan to meet AICC president Sonia Gandhi to urge her to ensure complete development of the region, before considering the demand for a separate statehood. These MLAs and MLCs, who are considered close to Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, are leaving for New Delhi on January 28. This is seen as a clear move to pre-empt the bid of senior Telangana leaders like V. Purushottam Reddy Palvai Goverdhan Reddy and M. Satyanarayana Rao who are seeking an interview with Ms. Gandhi on January 29 to prevail upon her to concede the demand for a separate State before the 2009 elections. About twenty leaders attended the meeting, prominent among whom were Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Rajeswara Rao, G. V. Ramana Reddy, Rajalingam Goud and Pulla Padmavati, all MLCs, District Congress presidents Santosh Kumar (Karimnagar) and Ravinder Rao (Adilabad) and Setwin Chairman M. A. Khan, besides 10 MLAs. Training their guns at the seniors, they said they had enjoyed power for several years, but never cared for the development of the region. While supporting the separate Telangana demand, the young legislators all round development of the region first. They also found fault with the ‘deadline’ of 2009 set by the seniors for carving out of Telangana and accused them of deliberately running a campaign against the Chief Minister.
