HYDERABAD: A 55-year-old Non-Resident Indian businessman, Mohd. Afzal Rahman Aziz, who reportedly married five women, was arrested on Saturday on dowry harassment charge following his fourth wife Farat Begum’s complaint. Hailing from Masab Tank, Aziz left for Dubai 30 years ago and settled there as businessman. He used to visit Hyderabad frequently. He married Taslima of Rethibowli in 1974 and divorced her after being blessed with three sons and a daughter, the Begumbazar SI M. Nagendra Rao said. Later, he married Fareeda Sarah in 1994. Through her, Aziz has a son and a daughter. Presently he is living with them in Dubai. In 2001, he allegedly married another woman, Fatima of Azampura, during his visit to Hyderabad and divorced her four years later. In 2004, he married Farat Begum hailing from a poor family. He rented house for her in Langerhouz. “After a daughter was born,he started harassing Begum, threatening to desert her,” the SI said. In this connection, Begum filed a dowry harassment case but he managed to broker a compromise with her through Lok Adalat. Soon after settling the matter, he married another woman, Noor of Hasannagar. On learning this, Begum quarrelled with him. After the intervention of elders, he took Begum and his daughter to Dubai and started physically and mentally torturing them by confining them in a house, the SI explained. He sent Begum and his daughter to Hyderabad in September last after taking their signatures on blank papers and later sent divorce notice to her. Begum lodged a complaint with the Begumbazar police on learning that he had arrived in city and was planning to fly to Dubai. The police arrested him by raiding his house at Masab Tank.
