Argentina in final
Chennai: A shock 1-0 defeat for Argentina against Ireland did not in any way alter the contenders for the final of the first of the three hockey Olympic qualifiers at Auckland on Saturday.
Who among the two, Argentina and New Zealand, will make it to the Olympics at Beijing will be determined on Sunday.
The win for Ireland against Argentina on Saturday pitch forked three teams at 12 points each. What identified the finalists interestingly was the narrow goal differences, with Ireland missing the final berth by a whisker.
New Zealand recorded a plus 18, followed by Argentina at 17 and Ireland at 16.
While New Zealand and Argentina play for the top spot and the Olympic berth, Ireland will have to battle it out with France for the third and fourth places. United States and Trinidad and Tobago will fight for the fifth and sixth places.
