The alleged kingpin in the kidney racket, Amit Kumar, being brought to the CBI headquarters in New Delhi on Saturday.
NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) Director Vijay Shanker on Saturday held the “exceptional level of cooperation” extended by the Nepalese government as the key factor in enabling the deportation of the alleged kingpin of the kidney racket Amit Kumar.
The request for the deportation of Dr. Kumar was made by the CBI through the Ministry of External Affairs, which was in constant touch with the Indian Mission in Kathmandu.
A two-member CBI team was dispatched to Kathmandu to bring back the accused to India.
The CBI Director said that the agency had already taken over the case registered by the Haryana Police against Dr. Kumar.
Wide ramifications
“It is an organised crime and a very serious one of its kind. It appears to have inter-state and international ramifications. The CBI will ensure that the case is properly and speedily investigated and those found guilty brought to book,” Mr. Shanker told The Hindu. The legal and procedural aspects of organ transplants will also be looked into.
